Hi UAF Listserv-
I wanted to share with you the results of our United Arts Fund survey which can be viewed on our website at
https://www.americansforthearts.org/by-topic/united-arts-funds. Please share with your staff and boards.
Also, please make sure that your colleagues are signed up for the UAF listserv. Go to

A few interesting stats:
- As of August 2017, 44 united arts funds are known to be actively operating
(as recently as 2003 there were at least 66 UAFs in operation).
-
Twenty-nine UAFs have provided their total campaign revenue annually since 2007, making them a reliable indicator of the year-to-year changes in UAF fundraising. From these 29, the $116.7 total campaign revenue raised on behalf
of the arts and culture in FY2016 is $4.1 million more than the inflation adjusted total of $112.8 million they raised during FY2007. All together, these findings suggest that the united arts fundraising sector is continuing its recovery from the Great Recession.
We asked a few questions about their DEI practices this time:
-
Fifty-nine percent have designed or re-designed one or more grant programs with a
diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) lens, 13 percent reported having plans to do it in the next twelve months, while 19 percent have not done it and are not planning to in the next twelve months. Those who selected “other” (9 percent) most commonly
cited informal practices aimed at attracting and supporting diverse grantees.
-
Forty-four percent have made changes or established new practices to address diversity, equity, and inclusion in their grant review processes; 28 percent have not, but plan to do it in the next twelve months; 13 percent do not have any plans in this
area for the next twelve months, and 16 percent reported “other”, most commonly informal practices.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Happy Holidays!
Emily
