Subject: [Americans for the Arts] A Personal Note to Colleagues
Dear friends,
I’m sorry to share this news via email, but I want you to hear it directly from me. Shortly after you receive this email, ASC will announce that I am retiring at the end of this fiscal year, June 30, 2019.
It has been the high point of my 45-year career to have joined ASC’s team in 2000, and to have had the opportunity to lead this amazing organization since 2013. I am proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish. But, I did not accomplish any of this alone but through the partnerships I’ve had with great board and staff members and most importantly colleagues and friends from across this community and country. The opportunity to work with each of you has been an amazing experience. Together, we have planned and built, faced challenges and opportunities, and bridged differences and examined old wounds that still must be healed.
I fell in love with Charlotte-Mecklenburg decades ago and it has returned its love to me. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to serve its residents and the arts and cultural community.
ASC’s Board has already begun planning the next steps for choosing a new leader. There is important work to complete over the coming months. I am counting on your continued support in our efforts to ensure Culture For All.
I plan on remaining in Charlotte and, after some time off, will begin to explore new ways I can be engaged.
I am certain that over the next 10 months, I will have the opportunity to thank each of you personally for all you have done to support me and the Charlotte community.
