All,

Minnesota CARES ACT funding has been received by the State but the funds are currently not available to city departments. City departments such as Health, Housing and my office are working with our Intergovernmental Resources division to access these dollars but the formula for distributing these funds is currently being debated by our State Legislature. Is anyone else experiencing similar problems?

Orange County, Calif and Oklahoma City have also tapped local CARES Act funding for the arts as well.

I also know the state governments of New Jersey and Virginia created economic relief grants for arts groups, apart from funding for the state arts councils.

I'm interested in collecting this information as well.  Please share any information that you've heard about.

Thanks Nina

Hi Karen,

I am including our Council report on our initial proposed $5.0 CAREs funding for arts and creative economy.  After this initial funding – the Mayor has set aside an additional $15 million for arts, culture and tourism that will be granted out later.

I included our CARES Act Flowchart that is helping inform staff on what exactly can be funded through these federal allocations.  It is VERY restrictive in what it can be used from.  The attached flowchart was developed from our Attorney’s office and Auditor’s office in anticipation of future federal  audits.

Hopefully this helps.

Dear Colleagues,

I am seeking information from those of you that have received CARES Act Funds from the city for your arts organizations and artists.

I have been asked by our Mayor's task force, Fort Worth Now, to conduct research on like-size cities that are using the CARES Act Funding to support their local arts communities, and if so, how much are they dedicating to the arts, and how are the funds being distributed. Is the money for arts organizations only, or are they also offering grants to individual artists.

Fort Worth received 185 million for their CARES Act Funding and we are excited that there is a chance for some of these funds to go to the arts community. I would greatly appreciate any information that you can share with us to help build our case for support that will be submitted to the task force by the end of the week.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Karen
