HI Lara,

Our director, Cindy, is out of town but forwarded your original email to me. Can we put in for one or both of the two programs below?

Dance for Parkinson’s Disease

Originally created by the Mark Morris Dance Group in Brooklyn, New York, Dance for Parkinson’s Disease (Dance for PD) is a weekly dance program for adults living with Parkinson’s Disease and their care givers. This program invites participants to move, stretch, breathe, and choreograph routines while sitting or standing in a safe and welcoming environment. Research demonstrates that through Dance for PD, participants can see fewer falls, increase gait and balance. Learn more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n44vUgBOlS4&t=1s

Arts in Service

Launched in 2018 with the support of the Boeing Company, Arts in Service provides creative pathways for service-members and veterans to reach their personal goals through free studio art programming. All materials and supplies are provided free to service-members and veterans in classes including jewelry, glass fusing, glass flameworking, printmaking, blacksmithing, welding, and ceramics. Since its inception, Arts in Service has engaged over 500 Arizona service-members, veterans, and their spouses through the implementation of free military spouse workshops in 2019. Through Arts in Service, service-members and veterans learn to gain confidence through art-making, make brave creative choices, make friends and share experiences with fellow service-members, and can share their amazing artwork each year with the public through our annual exhibition. Hello, all!

Please see information request below. Let us know with a quick note or link if you have an example of a project in your community that you think would be great to highlight as a thank you for the service of arts organizations and artists.

Thank you!

----------

Our agency focus for commemorating 9/11, which is now a federal day of service, will be centered on offering thanks to arts orgs and artists for the services they provide to their communities.

We will focus on examples from our direct grantees (and through SAAs/RAOs).

  • The service can be through their art – e.g. providing arts experiences, performers playing while people were in line for vaccines, etc.
  • Or, it doesn’t have to be about their art – e.g., arts orgs delivering food to shut ins during the pandemic
  • Doesn’t have to be pandemic based, but because that is our nation’s most recent time period, it’s likely a lot of examples will have that focus.

We are only looking for a few examples so anything you could quickly share/reference would be fantastic.  Thanks as always.

Peace!
